Michigan and the Health Insurance Exchange under PPACA

The health insurance exchange is the Web-based portal through which individuals and small employer groups can comparison shop for “qualified” health insurance plans.

In November 2011 the Michigan Senate approved SB693 to set up Michigan’s exchange however, the Michigan House decided not to consider the measure until after the presidential elections on November 6th. States are required to submit a plan to run an exchange to the Federal Government by November 16th. The exchange must be functioning and available to begin accepting enrollments by October 1, 2013.

Gov. Rick Snyder has decided that in order to meet the deadlines, Michigan will accept the Federal-State Partnership to develop and run the Michigan Exchange. This brings $9.8 billion to the table in Federal Grant money for development of the Health Insurance Exchange. With this type of State-Federal partnership that Michigan could eventually convert to a fully state-run exchange.

Regardless of Supreme Court ruling, some US Health Insurers to Keep some provision of Health Reform

Today in BenefitsPro’s daily newsbrief we received an article by Tom Murphy. He reports that Top US Health Insurers are saying they will keep some of the already active pieces of Health Care Reform (PPACA) in place regardless of the Supreme Court Decision here in late June. Reasons cited are that the American People like these provisions and that several of them just make sense for the health and welfare of the nation. Please read the full article in the link below. Dental Insurance for people on Medicare

What’s the concern?? Medicare doesn’t cover dental maintenance or repair.

What’s the solution?? Affordable senior dental coverage.

Senior citizens all across the U.S. are seeking coverage to aid in reducing their dental expenditures. Currently, minimal government assistance is available for seniors who need dental insurance. The majority of Medicare and Medicaid programs do not include dentistry. Even those programs that do include coverage for seniors only contain provisions for extractions of teeth, and exclude the majority of the common oral procedures often required for older patients. Practically no help is available for obtaining primary tooth repair or for having missing teeth replaced. Usually Medicare and Medicaid supply virtually no aid for just about any type of oral care.
